am i right in thinking that when they have eggs/carry eggs when the young are born they will only live a few days in a tropical tank and need to be in brackish/marine water to live?

if so what would i need to try and succsefully keep them alive?

marine salt
tank heater
air stone?
tank

how old would they be untill they can go into the tropical tank?

thanks
chris

opps wrong section can a mod move it to Invertebrates, Amphibians & Aquatic Reptiles Forum please

thanks

chris

I'm not sure if the larvae do well in freshwater, you could just move the pregnant amano into brackish before she releases them. They'd also need special food, but I've heard they can feed on algae as well.

yep thats what i meant

do you know how much salt per gallon/litre?

and dop you know when they could be moved into the adult tank at all?

thanks chris

Sounds like you are in the same place I was a month or so ago. You can check out my thread just down a little ways entitled 'green eggs'.

That was my newbie attempt. Start to finish. Bloo's link was very helpful in all that. :good:

Good luck, and great that you've got a chance to read up and research on it first!

(highly recommend putting mom in a jar to hatch out.... even after reading through the links, I hadn't fully understood that part.... can't add salt directly to their environment... have to add THEM to the already salted water... I hadn't had any experience with marine salts whatsoever!!) Made life very difficult!!

thanks

bloo's thread is very good thanks for the link

it helps that she (i believe form what ive read) about 1 months/5 weeks away will look for you thread in a minite aswell

however my eggs seem to black at the moment (might be me not looking at them that well)

so basicly i have t oset up a salt water tank and then add mum when set up and ready to go?

thank again

don't add mom to the salted tank.... she'd die off quickly. No salt for adults. If you hatch them out in a jar or small volume container, you can then remove mom easily (back to freshwater tank) and dump entire contents of jar (ie - all zoes included) into the already prepared/ presalted tank that is hopefully waiting. It wasn't all clear for me either (even after Bloo's recommendation) until I went through it. It takes FOREVER if you have to sit and syphon the hatched babies out separately to add them to the new environment... painstaking, patience trying, and back breaking!

thanks you just saved a amano shrimp lol

would it be ok if i was to add the adult to the fry tank (baby amano when they come) take the adult out then put salt water into the babies tank?

chris

Don't the zoa develop in low-end brackish water?
Adult amanos would be fine in low-end brackish.
