Would it be ok to use Amano shrimp as a clean up crew in a grow out tank for baby bettas? I was just wondering as one seems to keep on jumping into my breeding trap and clears up anything left over and then gets itself out!

I would say it would be better to do regular vacs than reply on the shrimp to feed on the leftover food on the bottom - keep in mind they are quite substantial little waste producers themselves. I just had my one single amano shrimp in a 4 gallon breeding tank this past week, and I'm amazed at the amount of poo ! even though she's only been fed some flakes once during that period, so she must have been snacking on the plant in absence of food.

They also really wouldn't do well in a tank without plants and algae.

Thanks for that! I was just wondering as mine seems to love getting into the breeding trap with the fry at the moment which is a great help when I think about it! Oh well more frequent vacing of the tank will have to be my option alont with the filter!

Do Amano eat hair algae?

That was nice of your shrimp to eat the plant lol.......
