At a very early point of keeping Amanos, their tank started growing hydras--and I freaked of course, went on a hunt to figure out how to destroy them things but didn't want to have to hunt down each shrimp just to net and move it until after whatever treatment I would do to the tank. By the next weekend when I had time again to fiddle with the tanks, all the hydra had disappeared. Now the snails are slowly disappearing (well, their shells are all that's left) and I caught an Amano holding a large one (ramshorn) in it's "hands" while it picked and ate bits of a snail. Yes, I do feed the Amano--spirulina powder, Golden Pearls, veggie flakes, pieces of zucs and spinach, leftover thawed bloodworms and mysis shrimp, flake fishfood (not all at once, they get something about twice a week). So, I'm getting some more to see if they'll kill and eat the planaria. I've seen my scuds flipping planaria "eggs" around and after months now there are no longer planaria crawling around the scud tanks. But some of the tanks with planaria have scud-eating fish in them so I'm going to try Amanos. Has anyone found any of this also to be true?

Planaria in a tank is usually a sign of overfeeding. Just feed less and you shouldn't have to worry about it :)

I don't "feed" my amano shrimp anything. They live on algae and bits of food in the tank if they can grab hold of it.

I tried feeding less--the shrimp in the tank all starved to death and there are still LOTS of planaria in that one tank even though it hasn't been fed in about 6 months now. The other tank with lots of planaria is a dwarfpuffer tank and the fish must be fed daily. I think the planaria are also eating the dwarfpuffer eggs since I haven't been able to find any in there and I know they've been, um, sparking.
