I bought 11 of these little critters earlier this week.
Very acive though small. BUT all they do is huddle together behind the filter inlet pipe :/ They have plenty of plants to feast on - or are they scared of the cory's, endlers and Killifish - oh and one friendly bamboo shrimp ? :dunno:

I heard that shrimp need plenty of places to hide as this is how they normally behave.

How come you asked this in plants? lol

Sounds fairly typical shrimp behaviour........ If they were scared they'd be hiding somewhere, i reckon. I don't see mine for days, either that or my fish have eaten them!

Because they are the shrimps kept in planted tanks - also known as the Amano shrimp.
People would not usually keep them unless in a heavily planted tank ;)

When we first got our shrimps, we waited a good few weeks to see them again once they had been introduced to the tank.

In addition, we are lucky if we see them daily - probably two or three times a week.

Another option bloo, is that they are all there in the same space as it is a nice place to be. I don't mean that in that there is a nice view and that it has a low crime rate, but if the water conditions are at their optimum and there is an abundance of food stuffs (i.e a build up of algea of detritus on or around your inlet pipe) they could be quite happy there.

Thanks guys - I'm just not sure. To my knowledge there is no algae where they are huddling. It looks more like they are just hiding. Perhaps they come out at night and do their bizz ? :dunno:
I don't see any of the fish or other shrimp hounding them ....mmmmm

Ah ok :) that might well explain it !

I also have found them to be very shy, I don't really think its anything to worry about.

Phew ! I thought I bought impostors posing as Amano shrimp

Mine are only just starting to show themselves regularly after almost a year!

It may have something to do with that I only have Cardinals and SAEs now, no Rams, Discus etc. that they may perceive as a threat.

I think the only cichlids you can keep them with are Rams, others will just eat them. I've had some awful experiences with Amano shrimp. They scare me witless and I can't really bear to be that close to them, especially when they escape and jump! But I realise they do a good job which is the reason why I keep them. Horrible creatures! :D
