So for a fair while I had two Amano shrimp, both male. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a couple more to keep them company, both male again (the last two in the shop -- otherwise I'd have bought a female). They all seem to be getting along fine, nibbling on algae, moulting without trouble and developing a nice dark colouration on their carapaces.

A few days ago, I noticed one of the original pair I bought has developed two blue-ish spots on his tail. Unless I'm mistaken, this looks like it's some kind of marking to identify the alpha male. Personally, I'm not sure if shrimp exhibit that kind of behaviour (though they are very social animals), so I thought I'd ask here. Has anyone else with a group of amanos noticed similar? Is he the alpha, or do the spots have a different meaning? Just curious...
