i've been away for a few days and came home to find all my clowns dead :-( ( they were being treated with meds for ick). none of the others have it. 1 krib missing ( presume dead), 1 talking cat dead. have done all tests ( all fine). change 20% water, and still don't know what happened. my 2nd tank is fishless cycled but i'm was just wondering if i'm still over stock? i don't really want to have two tanks, as the 2nd tank can't be seen easily.

content: 1 pleco ( is one of those mini one), 1 red tail shark, 1 angel (to be rehome soon as getting over size), 1 talking cat,2 drape fin barbs, 5 bolivian rams, 3 kribs and 2 panchx. i know i'm not suppose to keep kribs and rams together, but they seem to get along fine, the ram stays at the front and the kribs stays by the plants.

thanks in advance

ps. is a 250lt tank

This is probably just me still being a novice at this fishkeeping hobby but when you say clown..what fish exactly are you referring to? I'm assuming your not talking about the marine kind in a freshwater set up...so other than that...what other clown is there?

Maybe when you were away there was a power outage and a resulting ammonia/nitrite spike that killed your fish? How were they being fed and could they have been over fed resulting in an ammonia/nitrite spike??

Other than that it could be a change in pH but i'm sure that is unlikely and a temperature change is unlikely to result in so many fish dying. The fish that did die...were there any sign of disease on them?

I think Kiwi is referring to Clown Loaches. ;)

yes i was refering to the clown loaches ( not clown fish as in the marine kind - i wish i have them too, but is not really good to keep them). my friend came over everyday to feed the fish. and i know there was no power cut coz otherwise, the clock on my oven would blink. have done all the tests, ph,no2, no3,ammonia -all ok. if there was ammonia present would it not still present when i got back or can they disappear?
as for disease, the loaches was being treated for icks, and before i left, no other fish have any. very sad to have lose them as they were my fav. :byebye: and i won't be getting anymore as i don't think i have any space in the tank
