Even though I own several "submersible" heaters, I just can't bring myself to submerse them. I feel like I'm going to electocute myself. Am I wrong for thinking this, and how safe are they? I know you DO NOT submerse the non-submersible type.. but for some reason, I just can't make my self do it. Tell me it's impossible for any negative effects. Thanks.

well if you dont your at more risk cos without the water keeping it from getting to hot your heater will explode.

theres plenty of people on here with disaster storys like that.

the manufacturers arent gonna lie and electrocute you, its fine!!

if you do not submerse the heater you are actually at higher risk of causeing problems, if something happens and you cannot top off your water and the level falls to low the glass will crack and the heating element will get wet, if its subm, ersed the worst thats likely to happen is that a very small leack will occur and you will notice condensation on the inside if it is a glass heater. Also, something to note, if you are really concerned you can unplug the heater before you put your hands in the water.

As above. I always turn all the electrics off before I do work in the tank anyway. Easily done at the flick of a switch, and then I feel safer.
