I'm still very bad at deciding what is overstocked and what is not. So, simple question.

20 gallon tank with good filtration.

1 Betta
2 Dojo Loaches
4 RummyNose Tetras
4 Harliquin Rasbora's.

Does that sound ok? That isn't what I have in there, it's just what I WANT to have in there in the future. :)

And another question, which I am pretty sure I know the answer to (NO!) but I'm going to ask anyway incase I'm wrong.

Would a male Pearl Gourami or 2 Females be able to be in this tank along with the line-up I've listed? I think the reason i think it's a no, is I highly doubt they're compatible with that betta. Also, I think that's defenitly pushing overstocked, if I wasn't before. If I did not have said Betta, would it be ok? If I didn't get the Pearls (or even if I did) would I have room for more stock later if I decide or find a non-aggressive small fish I like?

Thanks, Katy

Your no overstocked as of now,

But from what I hear tetras are too nippy to be kept with bettas so keep an eye on those fish,

Gourami can not share a tank with a betta either so no

Most tetra's are, but I've done a good bit of research, and RummyNose is supposed to be pretty gentle and non-nippy... Er, unless I'm confusing it with that other one... Which I probably am. I hope now, becaue I like the rumynose. Yeah, I think I'm confusing it with redfinned tetra or something like that...

And I did not think so on the Gourami ^^ Maybe if I paint my betta white and tape some of those fangly things the Pearls have on him, they'll think they are perfect for eachother

I changed my stocking plan, because I fell in love with the Bloodfin tetra's when I saw them and had to get them. So, here's the new plan.

1 Betta
2 Dojo Loaches
4 Bloodfin Tetra's

WANT TO GET: 2 Platy's. Not sure if they are compatible, but I don't think they should be a problem. I do not intend to get bright colored ones that would upset the Betta. Would they be ok, and is this overstocked yet? I'm so bad at this... It sounds like I'd have room for a few more fish, but I'm not sure how much room the platies need...

Would I still be able to get a small school of Harliquin Rasbora's?

Thanks, sorry for SO many questions on this forum in the last few days ^^

In terms of tetras a group of at least 5-6 is prefferable. Dojo loaches are actually cold water species preferring a temp of about 65 degrees farenheit at which they will thrive. If you still insist on having the dojos keep in mind that they can reach up to 9 inches in length.

Most Dojo's stay 6-7 inches when full grown, and though it's a bare minumim, 20 gallons is acceptible for them. They are the only reason I upgraded my tank size, and I would never be willing to part with them. They are safe up to 75 degrees, so I keep my tank between 72-75. I try to avoid fish that need temperatures above 75.

And at the momet, My Dojo's are less than 4 inchesm closer to 3. If they ever succeed in getting over 6 inches, which would probably take a while... Years maybe... The whole community tank would be upgraded in size. I count each Dojo as about 3 inches of fish on the 1-fish-per-gallon scale, as they are hardly over that, not to mention very small in general, and much less space consuming then a 3-4 inch Molly or Tetra would be, per say.
