I set up my apparently 135gpd ro unit with 5micron prefilter and carbon granuales. i have also added a di unit on the end due to bens recommendation, Now set up i have tested the unit after running for and hour and a half the stats were:
Copper: 0
Nitrates: 0
Nitrites: 0
phosphates: 0

would u deem this now suitable for my reef tank? i dont want to purchase a tds meter as im short on funds and saving up for something else. would u think this is almost pure? Tastless and colourless soo?

thanks

If its a brand new sustem, then the water should be pure, providing everything has been hooked up properly. If your nitrates are coming back as zero, that's a good indicator that the filter is working correctly. If I were you, I'd purchase an in-line TDS meter. It will then tell you at the click of a button if your filter isn't functioning as it should.

Actually, a TDS meter is the ONE thing that you SHOULD order. A TDS of 0 is more significant than having findings of negativity in the parameters you measured above. SH

Yeah to be honest unless you have some seriously expensive testing equipment the above results may not be accurate anyway. In all probability the RO water is fine but would agree you definitely want to get a TDS meter. As suggested above I would strongly recommend an inline one. That way you can see at a glance how well your RO unit is working.

In-line ones are about £20 while pen type ones are normally around £10.

couldnt agree more, TDS meters are vital.

Used to buy my RO from LFS and didnt have a TDS meter thought nothign of it as its from a LFS their water should be top quality.....NO

i was suffering algae issues and eventually bought a cheap pen TDS meter and the LFS water was at 40ppm!

Now run my own RO unit and constant 0TDS, i have just got a inline TDS meter so i can see how my membranes are performing and also how my DI resin is performing. SO i can catch the early signs of membranes needing to be replaced or DI resin needing to be replaced.
