i have a juwel 125 27 gallons. i currently have

2 blue gouramis fully grown
2 gold goruamis adolecent
5 butterfly rasboras
1 ancistrus
4 or 5 verey small young fighters which will eventually move
3 cooli loaches
3 corys

it looks fine not over crowded especially as they all use different levels and i have had it like this for months and water seems to be fine the butterflies are apparently sensitive and are doing great, what do you think im not really going to add anyhting else species wise just maybe increase the corys and coolies in number

also this tank has been running for about three years so is fully mature and is fairly heavily planted

I doubt I'd add anything else to that tank, and I'd get those Bettas out ASAP.

I think it's a judgment call. It's easy to tell someone to something or not, but every tank is different. If you're thinking of adding more the tank should be nice and clean, the nitrates managable, and the fish healthy, free of stress and growing. If everything looks good, then you probably have a bit of room. On the other hand, if things are going good are you sure you want to mess with it? Do you feel there's something missing?

there female bettas iv kept bettas in a tank this size for years they actually get harrased more than being aggressive else they really do fine im sure theres been problems with them in some tanks but iv had no problems with females if they grow up in a community, if i do have problems i will move them but at the moment there doing fine and i expect them to continue to do so most english lfs will sell them as peaceful community fish in a tank with others in the shop they never really have been isolated nor are the males athough i dont keep a male in this tank as i have females in there

If my lfs was keeping male betta fish with all the other fish, I wouldn't give them anymore buisness.

well if you read most books they say they can be kept in a peaceful cmmunity aquarium. thanks im not planning on adding anything really i just knew i was a little over stocked on the rule of thumb and wanted to check it wasnt outrageously overstocked. all seems to be going well thanks. does anyone know if you can post pictures from photo bucket on here

Why? I used to keep them in a 55gallon tank with just about every small fish and the male betta never harassed them. Normally, you wouldn't keep male betta with other bettas, including the females. But I kept one in my 30 gallon with female bettas due to his laid back personality. Unfortunately, he was often bullied by the larger female betta and a pack of mean Penguin Tetras.

In general, most bettas are peaceful (male and female) and make great community fish, as long as the community doesn't include other bettas. That being said, betta's personality (yes, they do have one) has a strong influence on their behavior.

If you are keeping 2 or more male bettas to gether in any sized tank, then there will be serious fights, and someone will die. I'm pretty sure that this is common knowledge. I know you can keep community tanks with some female bettas, but I would say that bettas(males especialy) don't make good for community tanks. Sure YOU may not have had a problem with it, but that doesn't mean it's ok. Male bettas just aren't good fish for communities. They are either bullies, or get their fins nipped at.

Yes but im keeping females in a large community tank together not males so other than this you all think this is ok for now?
