Hello!
My platy fry are now 2 1/2 weeks old, and are getting bigger by the day. I feed them baby brine shrimp once, and give them a bug bite to nibble off of or crushed flakes for a total of two medium sized feedings a day. They seem to have large, bulging stomachs that are the color of the brine shrimp that slowly recede until the next feeding. Do I need to decrease the amount of food I'm giving them? There are 18 fry in a 3.5 gallon bucket and around 12 in a fry trap in a 10 gallon tank.
Another thing: I had a very small, under-developed fry that wasn't able to swim quite yet so she was laying on the bottom of the trap, but she was slowly getting stronger. Yesterday, I did a water change on the whole 10 gal, being very careful not to tip the trap or stick the syphon inside it. I look at the trap around 4 hours later and she's missing. I search the gravel under the trap and the floor of the trap, but she completely disappeared. Would the fry have been able to eat her? At some points in the video you can see her as a small translucent bump in the upper left corner of the trap. I didn't think she was small enough for them to eat her, but maybe if they all ganged up on her? If I am feeding them too much, why would they eat her?
Sorry for the video quality, the camera had trouble focusing on the tiny fish.
TIA!
