I've been cycling the tank for about 6 weeks now. I've been dosing the tank to 4-5ppm ammonia and in the past few days the results have been uniform. The ammonia is gone in 24 hours, by which point the nitrite level is very high, about 5 or so. 24 hours on from that the nitrites have completely gone.
I understand that everything should be gone in 24 hours but I didn't know if that referred to the nitrite from the beginning as well since that isn't there to begin with when you time it. After it's present in significant quantity, it's gone within 24 hours.
Nitrate levels are sky high, haven't done a water change yet.
