hi all

i was looking for a alternative to cold cathode as mine kept failing after about 6months
and found these great led strips while in ikea 21 pounds for four strips no wire modding needed in line switch included as well as all mounting brackets and the cool thing about these is the way they connect.

the pack comes as four 31cm strips but these can be connected into each other to form a bigger strip
and by the way they connect you get a water tight seal no tape needed great!! you can also connect the four into a square with the small extention connectors also supplied

fitted to my tank in a matter or minutes and all plugs and wires are nicely sealed straight out of the box ill post a pic of the product and soon pics of them fitted to my tank

but as an alternative to cold cathode and no hassle of making them i think they are amazing

cheers guys

I'm guessing that the transformer supplied with your cathodes is rated
less than 500ma. you need at least 600ma to run a pair of 12" tubes.
all my cold cathode sets run with transformers rated at 1000ma,
I even run 4x12" tubes of one 1000ma transformer.

I have had the LED sets and they are fine for a while then give up
the ghost due to moisture, even the "waterproof" ones.

no my transformer was 1000ma so no problem there im an engineer so made sure i got that right in the first place. well the led sets have been in the hood for about a month no and every time i have checked there is no moisture at all on the plastic coverings and due to the design of the connectors moisture cannot even enter to the contacts

cheers for you thoughts though
