EDITED ON SECOND PAGE, GETTING NEW TANK.....FILTER ETC RECOMMENDATIONS NOW!

Hi All,

After about 2 months of fish keeping, im already wanting a bigger tank!

This Is My First & Current Tank

In my topic re my tank, people suggested at least 18" high for the angels, is that a definate? or would getting say a 4ft long & 15" high tank be ok as the longer tank ment more room to swim etc.

Reason for asking is, ive seen this and love it!

Cheers

15 would be a very bare minimum for angels 18 100% better though. surely you can buy that without the actual tank and get a 48 x 15 x 18

nice tank though.. how much is it if you dont mind me asking?

I have seen those tanks on eBay, I think they are Buy It Now for about £300.

I paid £305 for my 5ft tank, filters, some fish, wood, plants and delivery second hand though. :/

I wouldn't put an angel fish in something that's 15" high by the way. My 4ft tank is 17 and a bit, so is yours a weird size or mine?!

Nice tank :)

this one is Tank Size: 48" long, 15" high, 12" deep and is £300

I may email them and ask if its possible to get a tank 48" x 18" x ?? im guessing the cabinet only suits 12" instead.

Will 12" be too thin?

Cheers

I think 12" wide will be ok, it depends what you want it for but I imagine it wil be fine.

My one measures 48" x 17" x 12", I think my one cost a total of £250 from Pets at Home about a year and a half ago. That was for a clearseal tank, a specifically designed (for clearseal) cabinet and hood with bulbs.

:)

Cheers for the replies, along with wanting a bigger tank, the cabinet will go lovely in the front room!!

We have 10 platies of different types & 2 angels.

When i get a newer/bigger tank, ill maybe cycle it with a few fish that will be fine with the current fish we have & then add them.

We dont want loads of fish, probably 20 at the most, give em loads of room :D

Why not just buy the new filter in advace and run it in your old tank for a while up to getting the new one?

That's my plan when I get my new tank.

i guess the reason that most tanks are below the 18" mark is the price of glass.

Correct me if i am wrong but once the depth of the tank exceeds 18", the thickness of the glass must triple, to cope with outward pressure from the water. This cuases the price of the overall tank to double or triple, thats why it is probably only 15" high, but 4' long

My 4ft, which is 17" and a bit high was only about £60 for just the glass.

Yup, thats my new plan!

Will keep you informed!

Any pics of your tank? is it good quality? 12" deep? because i like the fact ill still be able to use the pine hood with the cabinet:D

I gave you the measurements above but yeah it's good. Clearseal ones usually are.

Cheers for that buddy & DOH!! , when i checked before posting, i did it quickly and thought that was me that put the dimensions down :*)

Before i get one, is 17 and a bit inches still too small for angels? i dont wanna sound like i dont care as i do, hence the questions....does less than an inch make that much difference?

It's probably only about half an inch under. I just measured and although it's 17" up to the bottom of the black band, I have the water half an inch higher than that.

IMO, that should be fine. If you are worried maybe make the substrate not as deep or have it less deep in some areas. If the angels stay in the areas where ithe substrate is shalower then you know. But I personally think half an inch will be ok.
