Hi everyone :good: I have quite alot of frogs in my garden andd their anual breeding season has come resulting in my pond being infested by frogs (thank god I don't have gold fish ;)) I have already made a new spawning pond for them and i reguarlly put sticks in the pond for them to spawn in,it has beeen fine up to this point,In the breeding pond at least 3 newts have taken up resident,of couse im delighted because newts are quite rare and its a good oppertunity to populate my garden with them. But there is so much frog spawn in it and im worried if the newts do spawn the efts will get eaten by the tadpoles in their carnivorous stage.I am going to make a new pond for one speicies but I can't decide which one.if I move the newts it might inturupt courtship and I won't get another generation of smooth newt, but frog sppawn is delicate and I've already moved it once. Can anyone help decide for me?

thanks

I dont think they would be too much of a threat, if you are worried you could always add romaine lettuce to the pond so they have extra food to eat and leave the newts alone.

not sure where you live. but if you are in the UK. i would check with the authorities before you move any newts. dependent on species, they are protected. so much so, finding one would stop an entire multimillion £ building project.

Yes, I'm in Britain but i looked the newts up,they're smooth newts, the most common newt in Britain
