Almost There!

Hey all, just thought I'd let you know my nitrites are now down to 0.3 (WooHoo!!!!!!!) and my nitrates are 10, ammonia is still at zero. I got the gravel from the LFS on thursday and added it to my tank. My nitrites at that time were 1.6 or so....did a 50% water change, got it down to 0.8, then friday morning it was 1.6 again.....tonight, came home from work and it was down to 0.3....I just hope the trend continues to zero very soon....not sure if it's the gravel that did it (sure it didn't hurt though) or that it was just time to come down (it had been up for over 3 weeks). Yeah!!!! I am so relieved!

Excellent patience Sheila You should be 0 on the nitrite level by tomorrow ...he says keeping his fingers crossed It's nice to see such determination rewarded this way, congrats !!

Ok....checked things tonight. My ammonia is zero, my nitrites are zero, my nitrates are 10 YEAH!!!! I think it's finally cycled (keeping my fingers crossed). Anyway,....I had 3 more fish dead today when I got home. My son said that one of the gouramis killed 2 of the fish today...that he just picked on them. I've noticed that he chases the other fish all the time and have decided to get rid of both the gouramis (the female is good, but I'm afraid that if I get rid of the bad boy, that she will then become aggressive). Not sure what else to do.

Thats really odd behaviour for a pearl gourami whether it is male or female. But if it was caught in the act i guess its time to " book 'em Dano" Good Luck and happy fishkeeping
