I got these beautiful, plump, dark-green stems back in November, which started growing like hell (you could see it by the day), as expected.

Mine is NOT a planted tank, I just needed some shade for my glassfish, so I fixed the Ceratophyllum (demersum) on a stone at a corner; relatively low light conditions (T5 6500 K, 6 hours/day initially, 8 now). Five weeks ago I also started increasing salinity, at a pace of 105 g/week. I have now reached SG 1.001.

I have heavily pruned it two weeeks ago, removing all the bad looking stems. Not much was left, indeed. It's growing stretched, pale and extremely thin, compared to the amazingly rich and plump thing I got from the shop (yeah, I know, they grow them in top conditions...), AND some of the ends are actually getting brown, and rotting away. I realize now that they are covered with the diatoms affecting many other surfaces of the tank. Same is happening with Java moss, suffocated by the brown mess. I got 8 nerite snails a couple of days ago, but ofcourse more needs to be done.

I know the conditions in my tank are not ideal (light being the main issue, I guess), but is there anything I can do to get it better? Would fertilizing help?
