Get what you pay for, In this case - Cheap filter

I don't recommend APS to anyone for my own reasons. Can do a google search to see the good and bad points of them.

Have you looked at Aqua mantas range?

Well I have the all pond solution 2000 ef + running on my 350 litre aquarium.. It's my first time having an external filter an I think it's doing a good job so for I have no experience with any other external filter...

There is a slight humming noise from it nothing major... When I do a water change though there does be a bit of air trapped in the canister an makes it bit more noisier but if you give it a bit Of a shake then that get ride of the air...

Techen what went wrong with yours? So for so good with mine touch wood...

I have a 1400EF running in my 200L alongside my Fluval U4 Internal.

They are very good value, and while some say you get what you pay for, I think they do the job very well :)

I have noticed my tank is conisderable clearer since using this alongside my U4.

There is a very slight humming noise, but nothing much and I think it is less than some filters.

A decent flow rate (I think!)

This is my first external, and I think in the future if I ever need another external I shall definitely stick with APS as I think they're brilliant and a very good price :)

Im actually looking for something cheap and cheerful. Somethin with about 1200-1400lph but for £60 or under.
I wont be using it as a filter il be turning it into a reator.
Il give these aqua manta a look

I have that one works perfectly good flow silent my only prob with it was getting it started

There's been a few reports of the seal around the canister breaking and the filter leaking half the tanks water onto peoples floors. I suggest you always check that the seal is good and not damaged.

Is this with new or old models tho. All seals wear eventually. Il google it tho thanx

The seal problems was maybe a bad batch. I stay away from ehiem filters due to seals but thats my exp with them

Allpondsolutions seem to have mostly good reviews from what iv just read so far

Can anybody tell if the inake will clip together WITHOUT the surface skimmer?

The surface skimmer does not have to be included, i have it on one of mine and left it off the other. I sleep with one of mine in my room, i find it quiet. Pretty decent flow rate and plenty of room for media, or whatever you want in it. There is a bit of a trick (i find anyway) to opening the lid and not spilling water everywhere but is just fine once you get the knack of it.

I have an APS 1400 on our tank. The only problem I have with it - and this problem has been mentioned elsewhere on this forum - is that the baskets are rather a tight fit in the canister. The top two in mine come out easily using the provided handles BUT the bottom one is a very tight fit If you try to use the handle, Doing so means that the handle it just gets wrenched out of its socket and I have to get my hand into the main flow hole to get it out.  Unfortunately in doing so you CAN damage your fingers as there are some rather sharp edges in there.

Noted thanx, altho i dont see that as too much of a problem for myself as i wont really be using it as a filter. What are the plastic pipes and spraybar like? Iv read they can be abit flimsey, can snap easily and can have lose connections on the joints where it comes over the back of the tank?

They mostly get good reviews but be warned that some of them like the one I got make a noise.

Also if you go direct to there website you can probably find a discount code somewhere on the web and get one even cheaper.
