One of my newer tanks is the Interpet Aqua Cube. I was an idiot and didn't read into the description! the lights are basically too bright I think for my poor betta being absolutely blinded. I have lots of plants in there currently and hiding spots. However I have read that duck weed can make the tank shadier?

I was wondering if there are any other plants or lights that you could suggest that I could use to resolve this problem

I will do I have seen another one call banana leaf
Not familiar with that one, but I'm no plant expert, by any stretch...

I DO know that duckweed grows so fast and prolifically, that it can become a real nuisance...

I suggest Frogbit. If you grow the, properly, you can get super big leaves that can shade the tank really well.

Take my tank for example:

As you can see, that side is a lot more shady than the rest of the tank.

Frogbit is great, but the roots are very long. Dwarf water lettuce has a more attractive root to my eye, but both are fantastic choices and will certainly soften the light.

I keep both and have great success with them. This is some frogbit from one of my tanks, it's a monster.

I will have to have a look into it and keep my eye out none of my local sores around me sell any of these things 😢 so it could be a case of finding things online!

I have Salvinia natans. The roots are short and it seems to grow plenty, but not to excess. It provides shade but not heavily as the leaves are small and the short roots mean it isn't too dense.

I use salvinia to help shade my fish, frog bite is also good. I am trying to grow some frog bite to use in my tetra tank. I only use duckweed for my turtles. (they like to eat it)
