My mother in her infinite innocence thought she would clean my aquarium, with all purpose cleaner and dish soap, what can i do to clean the mess she made?

Vinegar is what you use to clean you tanks with you will have to rinse and rinse and rinse that out. When you think you have it all rinsed out then rinse again...

Hot water and Cooking salt is what I've been using to steralize tanks for the past 25 years.

holycrap man if I were u wash tank and leave water there over night and then use salt <= eating salt and do deep clean for a couple time a day and fill it with water and leave it till next morning repeat the step and do it for a few days.
