I have algae. They are like fine hair on my plants. It's not very bad, but it doesn't look good. I think my problem is nitrite (the last thing that form in the cycle, I always get confused). How can I lower it? I do a 27% water change every week.
I have 2 different ancitruses and a fancy algae eater, but they don't seem to eat this type of algae. My PH is about 7.4, Ammonium=0. I have not that many plants, and I give them every week, with the water change, some liquid nutrients. I also have 3 lamps (2plant & 1daylight) which burn for about 9hours.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Not exactly sure how to solve this problem. Haven't done much research on algae.

Anyways, just wanted to comment that it's ammonia=>nitrite=>nitrate. Nitrites and ammonia being worse than nitrates. Plants (and algae) can utilize the last two.

Cut down on your feeding, NitrAtes are the end result of the cycle and if you have high nitrAtes, theres a fair bit of waste being produced. This waste can either be uneaten food or fish poo, either way less food in, less wasted and less poo.

It can also be a sign that you are overstocked.

Try and get some fast growing plants as they take the nutrients faster than the algae.

The idea for getting more plants might not be feasible. Plants are said to extract a negligible amount of nutrients.

Sidenote: they also add a negligible amount of dissolved oxygen to the tank.

take a stroll to the lfs, and tell them the problem. i know at my lfs there are tablets that work wonders with all sort of stuff lke that, and they are HARMLESS to fish, i know from my own personal experiences. :kana:

i think overstocking may be your problem. If its the tank in your sig, then you have some fish in there that are gonna get to big for your tank. They are gonna be high waste machines. The Balas, clowns and the knife are gonna get to big for that tank. Sorry.

I think the problem here is that this thread is 6 years old...

I noticed the OP was online this morning and for some reason I could not pm him, so I posted here in one of his old topics while he was reading it in the hope that he would see it.

His user Id "Beesboer" means Cattle farmer and I noticed he was from SA.... so, What I basically said to him below is:

Welcome back... I notice you have not been active on the forum for many years. I hope you are here to stay.
