i done did it..was two days late on water changes the past two times and now I have algea creeping everywhere!

Im not sure how to rid this..any advice.

The algea is sort of red to light brown and is quite noticable on my white gravel. On a rock I have it appears green.

So far I have done a 25% water change, shut off my lights, and plan to do small water changes for the remainder of the week and perhaps after that. I do have an algea remover chemical and plan to use it tonight.

Am I doing this right? Do i need to alter my plans?

HELP!! and thank you!

i would refraim from using chemicles.....is the tank cycled....if so u could drop in a few ottos.....keeping the lights off and putting a blanket or something over the tank will eventually kill all or most of the algea

how long has your tank been set up/cycled? I have algae in both my tanks and it is nothing to worry about unless it is completely taking over, but to have a bit on the gravel and some on the glass in perfectly normal IME. As said abouve, if you have the room, and the tank is cycled, a few ottos will clear it up in no time and keep it mostly clean from then on as well!
Doing a complete blackout and covering the tank with a blanket is completely unnessecary, as this is generally what is done when you have cyanobacteria which by the sounds of it you definately do not, as cyanobacteria will take over the tank completelyand you'd know about it!
