Hello all,
About 6 months ago I decided to go with live plants & driftwood in my established tank (10 + years). Since then I have had this absolute over-growth of some type of algea. Does anyone recognize this algea and how to rid my tank of it. It builds up in piles all over the floor and attaches to the spider wood I have. The piles I pictured are small because I did a water change about a week ago and this is how much is already piling back up. It's even growing in my filter causing it to run poorly. Help please, I had no problems with algea before getting the plants and wood, the wood was boiled for hours before placing in the tank, I only rinsed the plants so I assume it came from them.

It may all be algae but I'm not sure.
Some wood grows fungus for a while - it needs taking out and hosing down/ sloughing off.
Also, boiling wood softens and weakens the fibres so there may also be some disintegration.
