What kind of snail, or any invert for that matter, could I get that will eat algea and not my plants?

I had an apple snail that kept eating my plants even though i fed him pellets

I put him in with a betta that has no plants and no algea, i just feed him algea pellets now.

Is there anything else I could use that would clean my glass? my 2 catfish are kinda lazy

you want Apple snails... BUT you want the Bridgesii...

We have them and our plants are still untouched.
(even with nearly 100 little babies roaming the tank!)

i got these snails with my plant form petsmart that were in my 5 gal but i killed them all i had about 100 of them and they ate algue

Most catfish are predetors or scavengers, so this is very unsurprising.

My trumpet snails don't eat the plants and eat algae, but they - and other snails in my experience, do a very limited job anyway, it takes a large population to really make a difference. Some shrimp will also munch on algae. Nothing works as well as a good algae eating fish though, like Otos.

I had otos last week, bought 3. two days later they all died... I might try them again

i guess they just didn't adapt as my water specs are good. I'll try acclimating them better

I might try an siamese algea eater

I'll read up on them to see if it could work

I wouldn't recommend them, as they only eat algae when young, grow quite large, and can become pretty aggressive as adults.

Edit: A Japanese trapdoor snail would be an excellent option, if you can find one. Here's a page with a lot of helpful snail information :)
