Hi,

Having just spent an hour and a half scrubbing away at plants, ornaments and glass on my goldfish tank,I just wondered if there was a little algea eater that I could put in

Not sure as some of them suck on the slime coat of the goldfish.

what temperature is the water at?

I could probably answer that if I could find the glass thermometer,My tank technician seems to have hidden it.

Its room temperature, sorry that sounds a bit stupid!

What size tank and how many goldfish are in it and what type? Do you have a very strong current or a more gentle one? Also, be a little more specific with the temp. :p

What kind of algae do you have? There are other ways to reduce the amount - begin by increasing water changes and gravel vacuums, not over-feeding to reduce waste and leftovers rotting, less light (either move from direct sunlight, remove any extra sources of light or reduce hours per day according to your particular sircumstances) if it's green algae, more plants - especialy fast-growing ones will compete with any algae. Goldfish also like to nibble plants like elodea or you might try duckweed which is indestructible though also very tasty apparently :p. Also, maybe check your water source for excess phosphates as this might be a reason for excess algae growth if all the aformentioned are under control. Again, plants compete for phosphates as well as for other nutrients so help hinder algae growth.
