is there any kind of home made stuff i can put into my tanks to get rid of alge that wont hurt my fish? i dislike alge chems because they always make my fish sick :(

this is for a 10g and my pleco is way to aggressive and messy, and my alge eater is pretty mean and doesn't eat alot of alge any more. iv been scrapeing teh alge off the from of teh tank so i can see in but i was think something along teh lines of a chemical cure.

Ottos are good, so are apple snails.

In my 29uk gal tank I had problems with alge: so here's 4 things I did..........

1 Buy three Ottos

2 Buy two Apple Snails ( WOW could see the colour of the stone covered in alge after a day. downside they pooh a lot but, its dead alge they pooh :D

3 Buy alge eating shrimp ( they help to )

4 From info from this site: ( GF is the culprit :p ) Turn the lights out for sometime ie:5hrs on, 2hrs off, 5hrs on.

hey i do the lights off thing 2! it works IMO! or its just psychological :p heheeh

when scraping algae a razor blade is best when your tank is glass :p no effort required. a rubber squeegee will do ;) or a piece of foam

ottos! yup cute little algae vacuums :p

Otocinclus Vittatus is a dwarf 'pleco' catfish ideal as an algae eater in smaller tanks.
They do best in small groups of at least three and will need feeding algae wafers, sinking catfish pellets and zucchini etc in addition to tank-grown algae.

Ottos are alright, But I prefer Snails. Ramshorns are My personal Favorite, but I have a Couple of Apples too.

I like your light Sech, I NEVER thought of One like that, it Would even it out a bit. Mine is 7 1/2 on, 16 1/2 off.
And I don't have a whole lot of problems with Alge, i also have a small amount of in direct Sunlight Coming in.
All I can say is Mess with your Lighting sooner or later you'll Hit Upon it, thats the Most Natural Solution you can get Next to a Couple of Good Snails, in my opinion.
I always liked to have the Lights on in my Tanks when I'm around in the Evenings to Enjoy Them. :*
