Right, tank's been set up for 6 months now and its going great.

however, i have recently had a bad algae problem. I usually switch the lights on for about 4 hours a day, and do a 25% water change every 10 days.

all levels in the tank are fine. In there is 4 harlequins, 3 corys and a bolivian ram (28g)

what's causing so much algae and how can i prevent it?
how can i clear up all of the algae thats there?

what didnt help is me going away for 2 days, only to find my mother switching my lights on for the whole 48 hours.

many thanks.

You've answered it - the lighting being on for two days would have given the algae a massive boost.

Is it on the glass or in the water? It's easy to clean off sometimes, and provided the lighting is under control (a timer?) it should not come back.

Irf.
