Hi

I setup my tank everything is up and running lighting up fish are in tank has cycled at least.. now what am i 2 expect in ways of algae? I use RO water and have lighting on 11 hours a day. I've noticed 1 of my rocks and a little of my live sand is a little brown. Question is how brown will it get? hehe and what type of algae is it?
Thanks
Ter

Early on, most brown furry algae is Diatoms which are eaten by most cleanup crew members. Later on you'll run into red/brow/green slimy algae (cyanobacteria) if you get lax on water changes and/or dont skim. Sometimes you also get hair algae after or in place of cyanobacteria again, if you get lax on water changes or feed too much.

Best way to prevent algae is with a properly growing refugium to out-compete nuisance algaes and/or some ozone filtration to break down organics

thanks mate,
I was just wondering.. my glass is started to algae up, what are the best snails for the glass? turbo's?
Ter
and how many turbos should i have for a 80 gallon?
*edit*

Turbos and astreas seem to like the glass in my experience. Best glass cleaner though is a mag float or a pole scraper ;) The snails will leave little annoying patterns on the glass :(

yeah haha my hermits create lines all over the sand.. i can see where they have been its quite interesting
