Hello All,

I have a question on algae cleaners. I just came back from Wal-Mart to get a 50 watt heater for my tank and to admire the fish there. In one tank I saw this black fat fish that was sucking on the glass. Is that fish used to clean algae? Actually it wasnt really sucking on the glass alone they were in almost every tank sucking on plants and stuff. Down to the main question(s) is it a good Idea to get one? What are they compatible with? What do they eat? Behavior wise are they active? Water temp?

Please & Thank You

considering you saw it at wal-mart, it must be the common plec.

while some people tend to say they crap more then they eat, they do clean out the tank of leftover food and algea. I must warn you that they grow to around 12 inches though, so a large tank is required
