I recently bought some live rock from a mature tank, the algae on top seems to be turning white. Is this normal?

What sort of algae is it do you know? If its corraline algae, it can turn white after temp fluctuations, change in lighting, or calc levels. If its Halimeda, it can turn white after a decrease in light levels, or calcium.

It's corraline algae, its the purple stuff that grows on fiji rock. Am I correct?

Yep, thats the stuff. It could have to do with your light, or calcium levels. Ive also found if you rmeove corraline for any period of time from the water, it turns whit after. It should grow back given the right conditions.

Sounds like coralline dieoff...not unusual after adding live rock new into the tank. SH

I have a large piece of live rock that protrudes from the surface of the water and the coraline has turned white - perfectly normal, just keep an eye on your water parameters to make sure there's no spike
