I have a 150 Saltwater/FishOnly with a wet/dry trickle. It has been set up for three weeks. It was cleaned two days ago and now brown algae is running rampant. I know this is to be expected to some degree, but is there anything I can do to minimize this problem?

Not much really, just let it be. Actually, make sure you have lots of current and opposing current going on. That should help minimize the brown stuff in the future.

Brown algae is using up the silicates in the water and this is completely normal. It dies off on its own once the silicates are all used up (unless of coures you are adding silicates into the water via water changes by not using RO water etc.)

Yep, I know about that, but was wondering if there was anything that could be done to minimize it. The initial set up was done with part RO and part Tap the water changes are all RO now.

:)

Im afraid you just have to let it run its course. Nothing really its it so im afraid you have to burn itself out.
