ok how long do you keep your lights on a day? is your tank in view of direct sunlight? what algae eater have you bought? what algae do you have ?

You could try algae eating snails, but you need a special plastic lid for this. Just a suggestion don't rely too much on this advice as I am a beginner myself.

Sunlight will always cause algae in a tank. One of the first things when setting up a tank is dont put i infront of radiators or windows.

I have noticed that light from windows makes algae grow much faster than the one on the tank. If you have to have light to watch the fish just use the one in the tank.
I keep mine on most of the day for my plants anyway.
Also if you can keep a sheer curtain over the window that seems to help some.
