I have real plants in with my girls. (10G planted filtered heated tank)
The tank is still beautiful because I have now switched to the floursecent lighting rather than the incandescent.
BUT this means that my little rock cave is turning green!
and I DO NOT WANT a green rock cave! lol

So, would an algae eater work in that tank with them?
Or should I just take it out and scrub off the algae every once in a while?

I think they would be fine with an algae eater. Maybe a BN plec or a bulldog plec. They may get lazy on you and just feed off algae wafers. *cough*Mine are lazy pigs *cough* ;)

lol

Is there such a thing as a mini plec?
One that could fit in my tank?

I wonder if he'd get torked off being in my tank, because it's so rocky and so many plants - not too many flat surfaces for him to latch on to...

They don't need flat surfaces. My plec will suck on the gravel in the bottom of the tank, the leaves and stems of my fake plants as well as all of the other tank decorations. I have a bristlenose and they are not supposed to get as large as most of the others. I have him in a 20 gal, but I think he would be okay in a 10. He is very peaceful and none of the other fish bother him, I don't have any female bettas in the tank, but I do have a male. I do supplement his diet with algae wafers, but my fish like them almost as well as he does and they wind up eating the most of them.

The good thing about Plecs is they are not easy to "pick" on. They have amazing scales and are fast little buggers. I had one in my tank with Breezer and they never ever troubled each other. :D

I would get the rubber nose, rubber mouth, bulldog pleco (all the same pleco, just different common names :p ) I have one in my 120 gallon and he is adorable! I've had him about 5 months and he is only about 2inches and hasn't really grown much since I got him. I think they are supposed to get to 3 or 5 inches.
