I got a bottle of this stuff.

I wanted to know is it safe for my plants? I have many plants.

I would also like to know if it would kill the beneficial bacteria in your filter media.

I lost my be-loved pleco due to old age and no longer have an algae clean up crew. It wasn't untill after he passed I appreciated how good of a job he had done. He will be missed and not forgotten.

Why don't you get a replacement pleco again? Personally, I don't like using any chemicals except the dechlorinator in the tank water...

Also reducing the amount of light (intensity and/or time) usually helps as well... ;)

I feel the same way about the chemicals. Strees coat, salt, melafix, and dechlorinator is all I've used and feel safe using.

I will be heading out to the LFS tomarrow I guess to buy a pleco. I'll be sure to take pictures of my new baby...

Nighty Night

Did your pleco really die from natural age? I thought they go larger than 12 inches? Its just that I don't see any tanks in your sig that can handle that sized pleco... ;)

The algae bottle stuff is crap. I bought a bottle and it doesn't do anything, I still have to remove the algae all the time.

I'm positive it was of old age. I remember buying him when I was little for my Aunt's tank and she gave him to me when I got my 1st tank about a year later.

I'm guessing he was around 9 years old, and he was 6 inches long.

I see...

Why not try something smaller this time, a bristlenose perhaps? They probably eat algae better than the common kind, without the mess (well, relatively speaking  ) that the common pleco brings...

He was a bristlenose. I gave my common from my cichlid tank to my sister as it was the only fish that survived the accident.

I'm probably going to get a new baby bristlenose.

Ok, that explains the size...

This time, why not get a variation of bristlenose that is less common? I have albino ones and they are very interesting!
