Hey everyone.

Earlier on today I noticed that one of my adult corydora has developed what looks like a bacterial infection or an ulcer from a physical injury just above her right pectoral fin. It doesn't look like anything else (white spot, velvet, fin rot etc etc). My question is how should I deal with this?

I bought a bottle of King British 'Bacteria Control' but have been informed that it will target all bacteria in the tank and will kill of my friendly bacteria. I don't have a second tank to put her in so that's out of the question. So should I put the bacteria control into the tank or are there other/better ways of dealing with this?

Thanks in advance for any help/replies.

what colour is the injury , if it's fluffy - use anti fungus and finrot by interpet - my corys have been fine with this
have you got a picture?

Hi Pippoodle, thanks for the reply :)
I'm just updating for zombryn.

The ulcer is white, and it's not fluffy at all, nor does it have ragid edges. It literally looks like she's cut herself, and its become swollen. There are 2-3 small lumps. It hasn't spread, and somewhat looks like it has gone down this morning. She's as active as always and isn't showing any signs of it bothering her.
None of the other fish are affected by it, but we've got her in quarantine in a floating breeding net just incase though.
We're just doing a water change now to see if that will help her out. We dont have a camera atm unfortuantly so we can't take pictures.

As for medication, we have King British Bacteria Control. As zombryn stated above, we're worried that this will kill off our bacteria in the filters too as well as her infection, though on the box or bottle it doesn't mention anything like this happening, so we're a bit weary about putting it in.

Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks ^^

:EDIT: We removed one of our filters so the bacteria from that will at least be saved. It's currently in a bag of tank water. Anyone have any idea as to when it will be safe to re-add it? We've put the medication in, and are about to go out and get an air pump for extra airation. Got a good look at the albino corry a few moments ago, and the swellings have deffinatly reduced significantly, so fingers crossed she'll be fine. She's still eating as well, so I'm taking it that that's a good sign.

Even though the swelling has reduced but she now seems to have a redish coloured mouth, it looks kind of soar.

Any ideas what this is? :S

Thanks so much to anyone who can help.

It's probably a bacterial infection, zombryn. Treat it with one of the products available to you, and do it quickly. Moving it into a quarantine tank is also a good idea. A net in your main tank is not the answer.

Even more important is to try to figure out why your cory became ill and correct whatever is wrong. A big water change and bottom vacuuming is the first thing to do because bacterial infections are often caused by poor water conditions.

What is the temperature of the water? What kind of substrate is in the tank? How do you think your cory injured himself?

Updating for my partner zombryn again. We did a 50% water change yesterday and vaccumed the bottom. We also added the medication that I stated above. It says to add the corect dosage to the tank every 4 days until symptoms disappear, but it doesn't seem to have worked yet, though it is early days, and we're a bit worried about using another type of medication incase they clash.

She's still very active and eating, but the appearence of the redness is really worrying, though it doesn't seem to be bothering her. Her barbles are all still intact.

Unfortunatly we dont have any room for a quarantine tank, nor the money to purchase one.

Temp is 24c/75f, and the substrate is a dark, very fine sand. All stones in there are large with smooth, rounded edges. The only thing that we can think of that she could have hurt herself on is the bogwood really, though only through really struggling against it; it's all very smooth. She is a very active fish though and might have slammed into something by accident.
We keep our tank clean and change the water every Saturday like clockwork, and do quite a bit of maintance at the same time like vaccuming the subrstate.

This is really beginning to worry me as I've become quite attached to her >.< She's got a hell of a character, and it'd be upsetting to loose her :(
Thanks so much for the advice so far guys :3 It's really appreciated. Fingers crossed that she'll recover.

Happy update ^^

The redness has completly disappeared from above her barbles, and 1 of the 3 ulcers has disappeared, and the other two have shrunk again. She seems to be on the mend ^^ *fingers crossed*
