I have an albino cory who I love and want to get him a playmate - am I better off getting another albino or will a bronze be ok?

Is it normal for him to sit on the bottom occasionally too?

it is perfectly normal for cories to sit at the bottom, as they are bottom dwelling fish. mine will just sit in one spot for long periods of time. nothign to worry about usually.

cories do best in groups of three or more, so keep that in mind. since albinos are really active little cories, a group of all albinos is a good idea, its fun to see them all playing together and shooting around the tank. cories will often school with other cories regardless of type, but some won't. i have four pandas who of course hang out together, but not with my other larger cory varieties. my two emeralds are inseparable, but my single spotted won't school with the two emeralds, though it seems like they try to get him to hang with them. he seems to just be a loner. he used to school with my network/reticulated cory, but after he died, the spotted stays to himself. long story short, you could try doing a mix and see, who knows, they may just school and be happy together.

Most Albinos are c.aeneus so if you can get some of them, of any colour it would be best.
But failing that, any similar sized cory would do.

Hi Jaxie :)

The bronze and albino, regularly sold in the lfs are both the same fish: C. aeneus. They will get along fine together, and the more you have of them the better.

There are other albino kinds of corys, but they are not usually available at the lfs.

I know I am ne wto fish keeping, but....yes but, I have had albino cory for 6 months now and they very raley sit on the bottom of my tank, they are very active fish, swimming and playing over the whole tank, I would look at other reasons as to why they are so still....I believe 3 plus cory is a good number , I have 4 now and they play all day long, more active than even my tetras............enjoy you albino cory...:)

Hi Jaxie :)

I wouldn't worry about your cory being inactive much of the time. They are actually nocturnal fish and he's probably more active when you aren't watching them. Give him more of your attention in the evenings and at night and you might catch him playing. :D

If you only have one, chances are good that it's timid and shy. When you get him some friends, it will probably make a big difference.

I'd suggest another albino, and a bronze. :D The two albinos and the bronze will look really good swimming together and as has already been said they are basically the same fish. My school of corys began with this exact mix.

As for them sitting around, mine spend the biggest part of the day huddled together in various holes with my Flagtail Porthole Catfish ... but they all come alive around feeding time. Mine really become active a couple of hours before the lights go out and can also be seen darting all over the place in the morning light before the tank actually lights up.
