Hi all,

I got an Albino Bristlenose on sat morning, my question is, how often do I give him algae wafers?

tank is 125l (33 gal), there is not a lot of algae, tank mates are: 5 danios, 3 swordtails.

i feed flake every day (small amount) and pea or frozen bloodword once or twice a week, but what about the algae wafers?

thanks

Dave

I'm not sure there is a golden rule. To some extent these catfish use leftover food and algae, so you don't need to give them quite so much as a similar sized midwater fish. Anyway, I tend to go by the plec's look and behaviour. If they are out during the day, it means they're hungry. A plec should have a nice round tummy and bulgy eyes, if they don't, again, not enough food.

I find my Panaque goes through phases. Sometimes she comes out every day looking for food, other times I only ever see her at night. She's 15 cm long, and gets maybe a single Hikari algae wafer and a couple of tiny trout pellets every second day. The rest of the time she has to make do with just the bogwood, algae, and whatever else she can find.

Cheers,

Neale

thanks for the reply,

i'll keep an eye on him/her. I sunk an algae wafer yesterday and this went missing after about 10 mins, and so has my BN now!! i'll look out for him/her and gauge things as we go along.

thanks

Dave
