My juvenile albino bristles have recently laid their first batch of eggs so I understand that this is a learning curve for the male. However he hasn't been as attentive as he should be and this morning I have noticed some of the eggs have turned white.

I was looking for opinions on whether I leave the eggs with him and hope some hatch or removing the eggs and setting them up with an airstone.

Thank you in advance for any responses.

leave them - remove the white ones if you can without disturbing him - if you remove them how will he learn?

Thanks for the reply indigoj.

I was thinking along those lines too, I just hate seeing living things die unnecessarily. Hopefully the other eggs should be hatching in a day or two.

Hey mate,
Im in the same boat. Mine seems to know what his doing. Eggs have just hatched and i can see their tiny little tails wiggling like mad. Its quiet cute and great to see.

My first breeding, for these, and any fish so far (and a guppy had about 30 fry a few days later). Anyway, ive reserached as much as i can and found that the ones that turn white are usually unfertilized, and are often removed/eaten by the male BN himself. I saw about 5-10 in my batch in the cave, and after a day or two they were gone so i assume he ate them?

I chose to leave mine in, but once they consume their yolk sack i will be moving them to my 10gallon shrimp tank.

Thanks for the reply indir-emir.

The evening of the night I made the post, the male had kicked a clutch of 7 eggs out of the pot - 4 of them being a healthy golden colour amid white ones. I separated as much of the white ones as I could and have them in a container floating in the bristle tank with an aerator. The next day he completely abandoned the eggs in the flowerpot so I added them to the floating container also. This morning I can see little tails wigging in most of them! YaY So happy I could save them.

Congratulations Clarissa!
Im very happy for you. Im now waiting for mine to leave the cave :D Now be sure tehy dont get into the main tank and get eaten! Keep up the hard work!

Indir
