My friend got me one for a late birthday present since she was gone. I was wondering if it could live with my new male betta in his one gallon ???? ????

NO. The only kind of frog that can live with a betta is a african dwarf frog that has no claws. And I believe adf's need a tank size of at least 5g.

AFC's eat fish. I wouldn't put it in there with my betta...or any other smaller fish.

Hi ScoutCarcer :)

The answer to your question is a big NO!!!!!

You would be surprised at the size of a fish one of them can get into it's mouth. A fully grown one can easily swallow an adult cory cat, let alone a betta.

They are great pets though. I suggest you get a 10 gallon tank for it and put a tight fitting lid on it. While it probably won't need heat or filtration, it will need regular tank cleaning and feeding.

:D

Yep, I agree with the others. Those things can get the size of your fist!!!

I decided to try it. There fine. Calculus(betta) isnt bothering Zombie(frog) and Zombie isnt bothering Calculus. Ill set up a ten gallon and start cycling it so Zombie can grow to full size.

WHAT! We said not to. Oh well, I wish all the luck I can to your betta because most likley the frog will grab onto the bettas long fins and take a ride and rip his fins off.

Hi ScoutCarcer :)

I don't think you understand what this frog is. It is, first of all, a survivor that has adapted to a less than ideal habitat. It feeds by reflex, when something it could eat passes in range it will automatically snap at it. It is not a predator as we might normally think of one. Durbkat is right; even if it is too small to eat the betta now, it could cause damage. This has nothing to do with its disposition. It's just a matter of luck that your betta didn't get within the area that it will react to.

All he needs is a tank with a sand or large pebble bottom (or no substrate) and a tight fitting lid. The vibrations of a filter upset them and the tank does not need to be cycled. You can control the water conditions with water changes.

His diet can consist of live blackworms, small fish and shrimp pellets.

Ok I moved Zombie into a goldfish bowl. Since I dont need to cycle the 10g I can move him in a few days I guess.

Well when your betta is dead you'll regret not listening. I have two pretty big ACF's in a 55 with huge goldfish, who are way too big to be eaten. But ACF's can get as big as your hand, or bigger in the case of females. And once they bite on, they don't let go either. So if he grabs onto your bettas fins, he'll be a gonner. One of mine grabbed onto my finger once, and it took quite a bit of shaking and lifting him out of the water to get him to let go.

All in all this is a bad decision, and one ACF needs atleast 10 gallons, and can't have any tank mates if it's just in a 10 gallon. Either just keep the ACF in the 10 gallon, or rehome him.

And shame on your friend for buying you a gift without giving you some research on the frog.

um..the post above yours says he removed the frog, and that he was going to put it in a empty 10 gallon. lol

Did you not see that Zombie is in a Goldfish bowl by himself or did you not understand what I meant by "I moved Zombie into a goldfish bowl".

She thought it was an ADF. She knows that they get along fine with bettas and she cant tell the difference between ADFs and ACFs. So dont jump to conclusions JackDemp528.

WHAT! We said not to.
Oh my gosh.
Now I know what nebies mean when they say we "jump on each other"
That appaled me.
Just because someone says I should keep my bettas in a 2.5G or more, does that mean I must submit to them and go and spend $80+ to buy 3 2.5G setups?
That was just a step too far.

So if your friend buys you a shirt, are you going to freak out and tell your friend off because you didn't do research on what color matches you best?
I think it was VERY nice and CONSIDERATE of her friend to buy her an aquatic animal, because she knows how much you love them.
I know if my friend bought me a Oscer, and I didnt have the room to house an oscer (even a juvi), I would still take it to mind that they thought about me, and spent the $15 it costs to buy me it, and OMG, I have to spend $5 in gas to rehome it.
I think It was very inconsiderate of you, JackDemp528, to be so unkind and mean to someone, who was just trying to maske a friend happy.
Shame on you.

I can't ebelive I am just noticeing how indeed, some people on this foruim do just jump on eachother.

I think you have a very nice and good friend ScoutCarcer

I just think everyone needs to read what each person write before responding. And calm down...give the person a chance to respond and limit the the use of the !!!! , that needs to be reserved for times it's really needed. It's normally taken as yelling and should only be used as such.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think your example about upgrading to a larger tank is just a tidge different than us saying the frog will get as big as your fist and eat anything that can fit down its throat (and sometimes things that can't) ;)
I saw an ACF at my LFS once that had tried to eat a smaller ACF in its tank and choked to death on it.

Glad you moved Zombie, ScoutCarcer. Calculus thanks you, I'm sure
