Remember the male who hadn't been eating? Well, he still hasn't eaten anything or released any fry, but his mouth is a little more swollen than it was, so maybe he's holding the hatched fry for another day? If not, I have no idea what's wrong with him...

HOWEVER, the other male had a surprise for me when I got home today... a HUGE mouthful of eggs!!!
This one is definitely holding. I saw him rearranging them in his mouth and could literally see individual eggies through his skin! Man, those things are huge compared to bubblenester eggs!! Hopefully there will be pics to come
The female looks a lot slimmer and more comfortable too, hehe

the first male is probably holding too if he hasnt been eating. he could have a smaller batch then the other male. sometimes there are only like 5 eggs and you cant see him turn them. good luck with them and you may want to tread lighlty around thme for the next uhhhh week or more just incase they get scared of something. mouthbrooders tend to swallow when they get frightened or they just do it for no reason.

It should be about 12-14 days

I'm hoping I don't have any trouble with this male swallowing, but I wasn't really expecting them to spawn so quickly. The problem is that they're in a 5 gallon on my computer desk, so they're going to be treated to seeing my ugly mug every day . They were tank raised and aren't shy at all, so I think it will be alright as long as I avoid sudden movements and such. The male is currently resting in his Java fern forest, and the female is flirting with Abrid, who lives next door... what a floozy! I love her to death though, she's so outgoing and cute.

I think today was the 14th day since the other male last ate, and it really worries me, but I've seen him making mouthing motions so I honestly believe he's holding... I sure hope that's all it is!

Yeah, I normally don't like to encourage betta pimping, but for B. albimarginata, I'll make an exception. Good luck on the double spawns! Be careful that she doesn't try to jump ship and try and spawn with Abrid. She's a little slut betta.

I was just dreaming of macrostoma in another thread, and thought of your boy who is still holding. They say that macrostoma pretty much refuse to spit out fry (hence the price tag) and they usually have to be stripped much like a cichlid. Ya think that could be whats going on wth your guy whos still holding?
