Hi

Do people recommend using airstones. I've heard its good for fish at increasing oxygen but bad for plants during the day as it removes the CO2. The ideal being to have the stone on at night.

This isn't an option for me as the tank is next to my bed and far too noisy with the bubbles going.

My tank isn't heavily planted but has a fair amount.

Any comments??
Cheers
Andy.

your fish will tell you if you need more oxygen in the water, if they all hang around at the surface and seem to be gasping for air then you need to oxygenate your water, if they are not then your current set up is fine. :good:

Hi, I currently have one going in my small tank as I am doing a fishless cycle and it helps that. I heard that on the most part they are for decoration but the ripples it causes on the surface actually increases surface area and after all that is where the greatest % of oxygen is dissolved into the water. You can create the same effect by having your filter outlet near or pointing to the surface or adding a spray bar.
