air stone questions

I understand the air stone help to break the water surface film - this in turn increase the exchange of oxgen and CO2

The bubbles them selfs do not add a great deal of oxgen to the water its the increased movement on the water surface that helps

I also understand from others in the forum that the larger the bubbles the better,

Ps i have a 4inch air stone and it still running 2 months on..

You attach it to an air filter and run tubing from that to the stone. You don't need to replace them until they get clogged. I'm sure you can unclog them but they are so cheap that I just buy new ones.

They bring oxygen into the tank by the bubbles bursting at the surface. The bigger bubbles create more water flow but I think the mist bubbles create more oxygen.

its not a filter on its own as it comes direct from your air pump i doubt your air is that dirty hehe
