i bought a small airstone today, well i guess its about 3".
anyway, i put it under a plastic log with a hole in the top.
thing is, all my fish are now huddled over the other side of the tank. i put the stone in there to help airate the water as they were all gasping for air at the surface. the airstone seems to have stopped that.

wheres the best place to put an airstone without it upsetting the fish? or should i try get a smaller one.

thanks

better way of airateing the tank is to move the water....

set the filter out put aiming at the surface so it makes it ripple, and it will put lots of air into the water...

other than that just leave it a couple of days and the fish will get used too the bubbles.

when using an air stone i usualy stick it at the back of the tank as this alows the fish more swimming room

hi,
i have the filter at a 45 degree angel at the moment toward the surface. it helps a little.
Ive turned the airstone off at the mo, but perhaps they will just get used to it as you say

Jenny - it sounds like your fish are acting exactly like mine! - surface breathing and the one that started pacing. I reduced the amount of potted live plants I had in there and added an airstone too. (plants don't use as much co2 at night which might reduce the amount of oxygen in my water).

These fish are so small - I was worried about the current created by the airstone. I woke up this morning to no surface breathing but three of them on the sand on the bottom!!!

I wish I knew how to trouble shoot these little guys better.

Best of luck!

Karrie
