Air Pump

Which juwel tank is it, do you mean an airstone, they say if the water flow ripples at the surface you don't need one, but some people like to use them as they like to see bublbles, and they are handy if you use meds as you need more aeration in the tank.

Hi, It's a Rekord 96, 96 litres as the name suggests. The water ripples, slightly, i was surprised as i thought it would more than it is.

Yep, i mean airstone.

Yes I would then you can fit them to ornaments and they look nice with the bubbles coming out, and most fish love to swim in the bubbles.

The Juwel's filter is sufficient to aerate the water. If you want to see pretty bubbles then by all means go for it!

Hi, I have a quite new juwel tank as well and was told to aim the pump outlet nozzel upwards so that it breaks the water surface if I wanted to improve airation. I was also told that this wasn't absolutely essential though as the juwel filters are sufficient airators anyway. I am thinking of getting an airstone though as the bubbles look nice! :p

The label of the filter really has no effect what so ever on it's oxidation potential :p

The main thing is to get the surface water moving, that's enough for oxidation for most fish species. As a rule of thumb; the cooler the water is and the stronger the current, the higher the oxygen levels.
Very little oxygen is absorbed through using an airstone itself (as in from the bubbles), it does make the water circulate more though, which means better oxidation.

aim the pump outlet nozzel upwards
Thanks, i did think about that but didn't think the nozzle would point ipwards, i'll have a fiddle with it later.

And thanks to everyone else for their replies!
