I bought 4 bronze corys a couple of weeks ago and a couple of them seem to get fat chest areas. Three of them seem to keep chasing each other about the tank including the fat ones chasing the non-fat one and also swimming almost on their back with the barbels touching them. Is this breeding behaviour or is it just shoaling and the fatness is air taken in from the surface? (which I haven't actually noticed them do) They have been like this for a few days but I have seen no eggs or T-positions, so could anyone explain? Cheers

Hi markyeldham :)

Any further developments with the corys?

I doubt if it's air making some of them bigger. It's most likely that the larger ones are females and the smaller one a male. This is especially likely if you bought them all from the same batch at the lfs. Female C. aeneus (bronze or albino) are often considerably wider than the males.

If you have room and want to try breeding them, I would suggest getting a few more males. This would give you a better rate of fertilization if they spawn.

If you don't see any sign of eggs, it might just be them playing. Corys do tend to be active at times.
