Hi all,

I have a 160L corner tank (currently cycling) and all the filter pipes and heater are right in the middle where the tank fits into the corner of two walls.

I was thinking of trying to hide them a little bit by putting a small air curtain in there, but - new to the game - I was hoping for some opinions and recommendations.

Firstly, are the solid air stones (e.g. http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-air-pumps/airstones-and-diffusers/elite-aqua-fizzzz-airstone-long-10cm.html) better or worse than the permeable bendy bubble walls (e.g. http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-air-pumps/airstones-and-diffusers/bubble-wall-10in.html)

Secondly, can anyone recommend a decent - and especially quiet - pump to get the bubbles going? Was looking at this one so far: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-air-pumps/tetratec-air-pumps/tetratec-air-pump-aps300.html

Tahnks in advance,

Scott

Hello Scott.
The tetratec airpump is the same as i use on my tank, a good tip is to sit your air pump on an old computer mouse mat. Mine sits in the cabinet under the tank and i never hear it when its on. As for your curtain i've never used one but i do recall a member having a blocking issue with the flexible(bubble wand)type.

Hope this helps, Keith.

Cant advise you on type of sone or curtain but i use a variable twin output eheim 3704 like this one:

http://www.arkpetsonline.co.uk/eheim-3704-air-pump-400-adjustable-twin-outlet-p-4711.html?wizid=gr7p5usklfkfk0cp91d6210i34

It is virtually silent.

Which ever one you chose, make sure that it does not touch any other equipment or the sides of the cabinet as this will create noise through vibration.
Also, if it is placed below the level of the top of the water in the tank, then fit a non return valve in the airline before it gets to the air pump.

Keith - whats a monse mat?

top tip for making any air pump quieter: Hang it from the underside of your cabinet via a piece of string. Since it's not in contact with anything it should reduce any noise produced.

Great - thank you all for the good advice.
Looks like I know what to do with my weekend now!

Dont put the air curtain or any bubble device next to your filter inlet. Air in the filter is not good.

Agree with Tom, I have a couple of tall plants positioned near my flow/return pipes just to make them not so noticeable.

Keith.

Ah, of course. No air in the filter.
How did I not think of that?

Thanks Tom, Keith...
