my first Betta, the one who WAS in the community, Donahue the Blue Cambodian, has suddenly developed a case of bubble-eye. it happened between 8:30 this morning and 5:30 tonight. he was hiding in his cave when i got home, carefully came out to inspect the new inhabitants and eat, and i noticed his eye has expanded and gone telescopic with a bubble over it. that side of his face is red to, and he didn't want to eat.

i'm afraid he's either got Gas Bubble Disease (lots of plants in the aquarium, lots of oxygen) or early Dropsy. is there anything else he may have? i really don't think i can fix the Gas Bubble for a while, and i know i can't fix Dropsy. he's moved from the community to the new boys Mini-World tank, and the new boy's in the community. none of the other fish show any signs of 'icky-ness' (believe me, i checked over and over and over again)

until i'm positive what it is, the lights are going on an irregular basis (one day from 7:30 to 4, the next off, just to cut back algae growth but still let the Vallisnera grow) so that Gas Bubble can't affect any other fish. if it's Dropsy, what do i do with my community?!

i couldn't stand seeing him so pitiful, freezing in an unfiltered/lighted/heated tank just so there wasn't a chance of him infecting other fish. i couldn't watch the poor boy die in a place he wasn't really the king of... he started twirling around, his face and fin squashed up by pine-coned scale because of the popeye.

bye-bye Donny-boy :-(

Sounds like popeye with some skin irritation. Not dropsy :p

If you do frequent water changes, keep the tank in tip top shape popeye will go away on its own. My angel had popeye, and after I did some water changes it went away :D

Water parameters?
