I just noticed my betta has like a whitish film on the left side of his face. His eye is cloudy too and protruding out a little. What should I do?? What's going on??
I had one like that, what I did was isolate her , I put her in a small bowl with a pinch of salt. Daily water changes and salt did the trick for her. One of the few females I have left
Treatment: There are a few commercially available products which treat corneybacteriosis. Penicillin and tetracycline are among them.
Information: Corneybacteria causes swelling in the head which will push the eyes outward. It is caused by overcrowding and water of poor quality, having an excess of ammonia and / or nitrites.
I added salt to the tank about 2 hours ago and just had a look at him and both eyes are normal size. It was just the left eye that I thought was sticking out a bit but I think with it being a little cloudy it looked bigger but I had a good look at him from the front and both eyes are the same.
It can't be overcrowding or poor water quality because they live in a 14 gallon by themselves and I do weekly water changes and gravel vacs. The tank is cycled as well.
I'll just continue with the salt and hope he gets better. He's active and eating so I don't think it's life threatning...least I hope not
I'm glad to know it is recovering. I sure wasn't implying bad water conditions, it's just whats in the med files. Basically it means stress. Any stress can start things.
I know you weren't implying bad water conditions His eye isn't cloudy anymore but he still has the whitish film on the left side of his face. It isn't one big patch it's all kinda spread around in smaller patches.
I really hope the salt helps if not I'll probably have to treat for fungus
