Welllll everything was great at the beginning. Then Mayo stopped building his nest which was very odd since he always impresses me with his nest. I turned off the light and am waiting for tomrrow to see if any improvement. At first I wans't worried about the nest but now I am. I see bubbles, some clumped together under the indian almond leaf while others just...drift. I am  and :( but hopefully tomrrow I will be  and :D

YAY I SEE A NEST!! Small but high for some odd reason. He wont build under the leaf just out in the middle of nowhere. There is no cup because i don't like that method and he's not used to it.

leave the light on lol

i think my bettas spawned!!woot woot but i dunno lol i just see eggs lying on the floor...away from the nest so i dunno....

Ah darn I got too impatient and released them at 1.10 pm today (just about 4 hours ago) and well the male double his nest size, chases the female and vice versa. The female is getting kinda shredded but she's alright, flaring and chasin the male too. So far I haven't seen an ebmrace cuase I wanted to leave them alone. This is takin so long :(

Just remember...it takes as long as it takes. Try not to rush them, or one or both CAN end up dead.

If there are a large amount of eggs on the bottom, then one of two things happened:

a. The female dropped her eggs, and you need to stop now, pull them both out, and recondition all over again.

b. They spawned, but your male is lazy and not doing his job, which means that the large majority of the eggs will not hatch. Whatever hatches, probably won't make it to free-swimming stage.

I believe my male does not know how to spawn. He built a huge nest and chases the female away. She stays away and occasionally chases the male. I don't know if they spawned or not cause I was sleepin :/ but right now the female isn't torn up that she can't swim. I guess I'll wait till tomrrow and see what happens.

Edit: Male stopped building nest, doens't flare at female, and is swimming in circle with her. Man this is nerve wrecking.

If he's swimming with her, this could be a good sign. Sometimes they do that before they spawn. It's like they're getting better acquainted.

yay after awhile my male finally left the nest and while the nest was deterorating for a lil while eggs fell out lol. i kno not the best way to check but i found out. but hes back by his nest like a good daddy. fry will be tomorrow i hope and i plan to do the leave the father with the fry type of thing wiht this spawn.

Man I haven't seen anything cept for the male keep building nest and female occasionally swims with the male. If I don't see her thinner tomrrow, I'll try and recondition for another two weeks :/

If she's really fat, but they're not quite ready yet, just put her back in whatever you had separating her in the tank and let him finish his nest. Then, when she's behaving pretty much as she should (swimming with him along the edge of whatever separates them, standing on her nose and wiggling her butt), let her go again.

That's assuming, of course, that your male just doesn't turn hyperaggressive before you separate them again (if you have to) and tear her to bits. Or the other way around.
