Hi,

I've got a bit of a problem with a female swordtail and a dwarf gourami. She seems to have become extremely agressive towards the Gourami. So much so the gourami seems to be hiding the majority of the time. The agressiveness doesnt seem to be limited towards the Gouramis either... she's having a go at the other female swordtail in the tank too.

I'd be grateful of any suggestions as to why her behaviour may have changed! Also as to what I may be able to do to resolve it... would it be worth trying to seperate her out for a while?

TIA for any help,
e

hello

Have you checked that she isn't pregnant as this might make her territorial?

Have you got any male swordtails in the tank?
this might explain this unusual behavior towards your gouramis

hope this was of some help if not then she could just be stressed or harrased by other fish

Memnon :)

Get a male swordtail. He will keep her so busy trying to get away from his attention that she will not have much time to harrass the others. Besides swordie babies are cute.

Thanks for the advice. Im fairly sure she's not pregnant. I did have a male swordtail until about two weeks ago. He died rather suddenly... no real clues as to why. I did wonder if it would affect their behaviour but she seemed ok. Now she's turned aggressive it may be the most sensible option. Now all I've got to do is find someone that sells them!

Many thanks,
Iain
